Candy man

Black money is not packed in bags labeled “Black Money.” This cannot be said of the liquorish candies used by Erik Steinbrecher as the material for his new series. Deformed and sticky after having been boiled and soaked in water, the candies were molded by the artist into miniature sculptures. These were then placed on pedestals that the artist found in the trash, bottle tops and other container tops. For CANDY MAN the resulting sculpture park was photographed from an elegantly elevated position, printed, and placed back in the bag. And this little bag holds all the major questions of representation.
