With the “Sextodecimo” project, Yann Sérandour starts from Bruno Munari’s famous series of images. Currently broadcasted again by Italian publisher Corraini as a poster, it remakes the original into a 32-page notebook, folded and bound. From poster to poster, the folds vary, producing different page sequences and reading directions, alternating fragments of images and blank pages, tension and looseness. In the hands of the bookbinder and then the reader, the images of Munari spin to the rhythm of a haphazard imposition of the pages into the book.
Produced as part of Reading dance, in response to the series of images by Bruno Munari titled “Ricerca della comodità in una poltrona scomoda” (In search of comfort in an uncomfortable armchair), first published in the Domus review in 1944 to illustrate an article he devotes humourously to the proliferation of sitting manners and their discomfort.
Offset printed poster folded in 16 and partially cut out in the folds, hot stamping, manually sewn 32 uncut pages, 19,5x12,8 cm Limited edition of 40 copies Binding by Laurel Parker Book, Montreuil Published by cneai =, Chatou and Christophe Daviet-Thery, Paris With his project “Sextodecimo“, Yann Sérandour uses Bruno Munari’s images directly. As the images are also distributed as a poster by the italian publisher Corraini, he uses it and transforms it into a 32 pages leaflet by having it folded and bound. From poster to poster, the folds are different, producing different sequences and meaning by alternating fragments of pictures and white pages, tension and pause. In the hands of the binder first, then in the hands of the reader, Munari’s reshuffled images are following the rhythm of their random arrangement in the book. A part of Reading dance, in reply to 1944 Bruno Munari’s series of images titled: "Ricerca della comodità in una poltrona scomoda“ [Seeking confort in an uncomfortable chair), that is published the same year in Domus (Domus 202 / October 1944) to illustrate an article, full of humor, that he wrote about the proliferation of various forms of seats and how uncomfortable they were. €50,00
