Yuni Hong Charpe

Yuni Hong Charpe is an artist born in Japan to Zainichi-community (Koreans in Japan) who lives and works in France and Japan. After moving to France in 2005, Yuni studied at the École nationale supérieure d’arts de Paris-Cergy (2013-2015).

At the intersection of dance and visual arts, their work often begins with reflections on site-specific stories and personal memories, exploring the diversity and instability by questioning identities constructed from normative attributes. In 2020, they conducted a research project selected as part of the « Joint Usage / Research » program at Kyoto Performing Arts Center. In the same year, they created a video-installation Répète as part of the experimental residency at CND, then showed it at the Land of Clear Water AAIC Festival at MBA Gifu (jury prize). For 2022, residencies at the Kinosaki International Art Center in Japan and ORO-Honolulu in Nantes. Research Fellow at the Institute of Contemporary Arts Kyoto in 2021-2022.

They have presented performances and participated in group exhibitions, including; 65e Salon de Montrouge, Beffroi (2021) / Festival INACT, Strasbourg (2020) / 100% performances, Grande Halle de la Villette (2019) / Festival PERFORM, Art Sonje Center, Seoul, South Korea (2017) / Genbi Oubo, Hiroshima Museum of Contemporary Art, Japan (2017) / Grand Bassin, Piscine Pierre et Marie Curie, Mulhouse (2017) / IMAGES MOBILES, Ygrec, Paris (2017)… They published a catalog, “Grand Bassin” by Zero2 éditions (Nantes, 2018).
